Description

Lievland, which in Afrikaans means Loveland, is a historic farm with a long and peculiar history. The manor house dates back to 1865, and over the years there have been many pioneers who have lived there. The pursuit of viticulture has been a common thread, and each of these stories is woven into the rich history of the estate. The property was acquired by MAN Family Wines in 2017. Jose Conde and Tyrrel Myburgh, co-founders of MAN, had been searching for the perfect estate to settle their growing wine business. What they didn't imagine was that they would fall in love with a farmhouse "sleeping beauty" badly in need of restoration. Lievland had a history of stellar wine production, but had been dormant for more than a decade. Undaunted by the enormity of the task, the MAN team set out to restore the integrity of the vineyards to realize the goal of making world-class wines.
The Bushvine Pinotage presents a modern, elegant style with vibrant cherry and raspberry aromas and a touch of cedar and vanilla from oak maturation. The palate is broad, with red fruit and a delicious savory note. The dry-farmed vineyards add depth and richness and add delicious complexity to this wine.
Made in a modern and elegant style, this Pinottage shows vibrant cherry and raspberry notes with a touch of cedar and vanilla from the oak aging. The palate is rich in red fruit and savory, typical of the variety. An 8% of Grenache adds liveliness and complexity. A 4% of dry-farmed Syrah contributes fine, elegant tannin. A small percentage (3%) of Cinsault from old vines has been blended to enhance the aromas and add freshness to the palate. The grapes for this wine were selected from two of our partners' best vineyards. The Eenzaamheid estate (Solitude) It is a windy site that ripens late and tends to give thick-skinned fruit, good color and a smooth, rich, classic style. The Hoogstede (Lugar Alto) estate contributed 35% to the blend. This is a cool site, with decomposed granite soil, which tends to ripen early and produces wines with more structure and freshness.
Winemaking details: The grapes are hand-picked in small crates, after which they are taken to the winery for destemming, crushing and cooling. After two days of cold maceration, fermentation begins with pumping over three times a day. Because Pinotage has naturally thick skins and a correspondingly high phenolic content, the wine is separated from the skins immediately after fermentation and pumped directly into barrel for 13 months aging-all French oak, 15% new and the rest 2nd, 3rd and 4th use. Bottled with a light cleaning filtration.
