A wine that shows us the splendor of each vintage from the wisdom of the past and the richness of the present. A lively, passionate and mature style that year after year, challenge after challenge, vintage after vintage reinterprets its style to keep its essence intact. Valbuena is the purest expression of the tinto fino (tempranillo) at Vega Sicilia. The assemblage of varieties that make up this magnificent wine has in the tinto fino the predominant grape in a very majority way. The other variety used is Merlot, which will participate to a greater or lesser extent depending on the vintage. The Tempranillo of Valbuena is obtained from plots located on gently sloping concave hillsides that descend from the slopes of the moor. These soils have their origin in material that was eroded and accumulated as colluvium on the lower slopes, developing a soil of high expression, with an important evolution concretized with the formation of a calcic horizon in depth. Valbuena shows us a direct and understandable vision of the greatness of this "terroir" with the direct influence of each vintage. The winemaking process remains unchanged so that the differences between vintages are determined by the climatic factors of each year. Temperature controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeast. Malolactic fermentation is also carried out in stainless steel. After fermentation, the wine is aged for five years between wood and bottle, hence the name Valbuena 5º. French and American wood, new and used 225-liter barrels, 20,000-liter vats... A long and complex process for a great wine.
