The Castaño family are the original pioneers of the Yecla DO. Starting in the 1950s, Ramón Cantaño Santa, with a long family history in the world of viticulture, built the first modern winery in the region and, over the following decades, expanded the family estate to 450 hectares of vineyards, mainly of old Monastrell in goblet-trained vines. From the 1980s onwards, the family began bottling wines under its own name, continuing to innovate and enhance the reputation of Yecla Monastrell in domestic and export markets. Prior to this time, most of the wine made in the region was sold in bulk, so much of the best old vine material was blended before anyone could realize its quality. Solanera is a blend of Monastrell (65%), Cabernet Sauvignon (20%) and Tintorera (15%) aged in oak for 10 months. A dark, intense bright red, the nose is dominated by aromas of ripe black fruits (blueberries and blackberries). On the palate, these fruity notes return along with a touch of plum jam and a very elegant mineral touch. The oak notes are perfectly integrated with sweet tannins and a long aftertaste.
Intense dark red but clean and bright, the nose is dominated by ripe fruit aromas (blueberries and blackberries) that return on the palate accompanied by plum compote and a very elegant mineral touch. It is fresh, silky, but no less opulent and structured. Fully integrated oak, with sweet tannins and a long finish.
