This wine is made from Godello grapes grown in 25-year-old estates from which they are hand-picked. Indigenous yeasts are used in its production and, before the final blend is made, it rests for approximately one year in barrels of different sizes to achieve the final nuances.
2020 was a very good year for the whites, and they were harvested very early. None of the whites go through malolactic, and this is the freshest vintage of this wine so far. Ultreia Godello 2020 shows restraint and high acidity. It is very savory, mineral and finishes dry. It is now made with mostly own grapes from Cacabelos and Ponferrada (in 2022 they will own about 80% of the vineyards used for this wine). Matured in a mixture of barrels, oak foudres and some concrete. The Latin word ultreia greeted the pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago, a word that means forward, and this is how Raul Perez named one of his best known and most appreciated wine collections. Ultreia focuses on Bierzo with one surprising exception: a wine from the collection in the Douro region of Portugal. Alone, in collaboration or consulting, Raúl Pérez only undertakes exciting projects, creating his own style that has allowed him to have more than 200 labels in the list of The Wine Advocate, elaborated by the prestigious American critic Robert Parker. The wines of Raúl Pérez Bodegas y Viñedos are not only produced in Bierzo, where the winery is located; they are also made in León, Rías Baixas, Ribeira Sacra and Monterrei.
