1999, the end of a decade in which Rioja wine sought a new path, a turn towards the wines of the New World. The search was for lost finesse and freshness, and the protagonism of oak ageing was fought against, at the same time as the concept of terroir was vindicated. Mirto finds here its place to start a revolution, that of modern and fresh nuances obtained from vineyards located in privileged sites. A wine that offers at the same time consistency and freshness, balance, fluidity and noble strength. A red wine that does not seek to be the expression of a specific vineyard, but the best expression of a vintage. A new winery philosophy and innovative concepts that we have been cascading to all our wines. We could say that Mirto has marked a before and after in the history of Bodegas Ramón Bilbao, leading a movement that goes beyond the established. This 2016 vintage comes from an excellent harvest: Flowering began 15 days later than usual. A very cold winter and a very rainy spring. A dry summer with high temperatures facilitated the final phase, resulting in a high quality harvest. The harvest began in the 3rd week of September, at perfect ripeness. The vintage was classified as very good. Cluster selection and fermentation at controlled temperature. Malolactic fermentation in barrels using the "bâtonnage" technique. Aged for 18 months in new French Allier oak barrels with a selected level of toast. Bottled without fining or filtration.
