Pazos de Monterrey Godello is a spectacular example of what the combination of climate and terroir of the Verín valley, in the Monterrei DO, can give. Obtained from a detailed selection of grapes from different vineyards, Pazos de Monterrei is a fresh, fruity, balanced and elegant Godello.
The origins of the winery are closely linked to the winemaking history of the D. O. Monterrei. It was built in 1965 and was initially conceived as a cooperative to which most of the winegrowers in the area came to contribute 4 million liters in the 80s. The colossal gear that, at that time, moved around Pazos del Rey employed a total of 600 people, making it a real economic lung for the region. The winery was revived in the 1990s with a renewed concept and the current building was built where they began to produce wines looking for the unique expression of the land. The characteristics of this new project fitted perfectly with the values of Terraselecta, a company it joined in 2008.
This wine comes from vineyards located in Valle and Ladera within the Monterrei D.O. seeking a balance between the ripening that takes place in both subzones. The result is a wine that expresses the character of the Godello variety in its youth. In its elaboration, a short cold maceration of the grapes is carried out before pressing. The alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature and once it is finished, a short aging on lees is carried out. It is a clean and bright white wine, straw yellow in color with greenish hues. It is very fruity, with notes of green apple, citrus and litchis with a very pleasant creamy note on a background of white flowers and dried herbs. It has a smooth entry on the palate and a medium-volume pass that is balanced by its freshness. The bitter finish so typical of the variety makes it a very pleasant wine that leaves a long aftertaste.
