Pago de Carraovejas El Anejón is a red wine made by the Pago de Carraovejas winery in Valtuille de Abajo, D.O. Ribera del Duero. Pago de Carraovejas is a winery founded by José María Ruiz, which launched its first vintage in 1991. The Carraovejas estate, with more than 200 hectares of vineyards, is located on the outskirts of Peñafiel, one of the towns with the longest winemaking tradition in the Ribera del Duero, where we can find chalky-loam soils with red clay. In this area, the climate is oceanic with scarce rainfall and very cold in the long and wet winter months, where temperatures can reach -10ºC. Summers are very short and very hot, reaching temperatures of up to 40ºC, although mornings and evenings are usually cooler. Pago de Carraovejas makes a tireless effort every year to achieve levels of excellence in each and every one of the winemaking processes. In this way, the winery has managed to position itself as one of the best wineries in Ribera del Duero and Spain. El Anejón is a wine made with Tinto Fino, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, from a plot planted in 2001 in terraces, on a hillside at an altitude of 900 meters with limestone-loam soils of great minerality with the presence of calcareous salts. The grapes are harvested by hand and placed in small boxes. Once they arrive at the winery, they pass through a cold chamber before entering the tanks by gravity. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations are carried out in small French oak vats with indigenous yeasts and bacteria. This wine is aged in extra fine grain French oak barrels. It is clarified with egg white before bottling with a natural cork stopper.

Description

The El Anejón vineyard is a terraced plot located on a steep hillside, facing the sun and with magnificent views of Peñafiel Castle. The soil of the narrow terraces has a compact, silty limestone texture. The presence of white calcareous limestone salts contributes to a distinctive minerality in this wine. It is only made in exceptional vintages. Intense purple-red color. Complex nose, suggestive of red berries, flowers, toast and spices. Fresh and vibrant; powerful and elegant; well structured and balanced.
