Miquel Gelabert Gran Vinya Son Caules Red 75cl

This wine comes from a selection of grapes from the oldest vines picked for their ripeness and quality. The 90% blend of this complex wine is composed of the best grapes from our old Callet vines and is complemented by a 10% from Manto Negro and Fogoneu. The wine remains in French, Caucasian and a few American oak barrels (80% new) for 12 months, followed by an undetermined time in bottle to become what can be described as "a fine wine".

Description

The winery Vins Miquel Gelabert is registered with the number 3 to the D.O Pla i Llevant de Mallorca. It is a small and familiar winery since it only elaborates from 30.000 to 35.000 liters per year depending on the harvest. The harvest is all manual, in boxes of 15 kilos. In the plots of old vines (40 to 65 years old) the grapes are selected according to their ripeness and are harvested 2 or 3 times. The use of cold and the good condition of the grapes guarantee a good elaboration, where the peculiarities of each grape are respected to the maximum, since the wines ferment without the help of selected yeasts, being the own of each grape the ones that are going to mark their character. The wines are aged in 225 liter oak barrels: French 80%, American 10% and Caucasian 10%, which are renewed 30-40% each year; in the fermentation of the aged white wines the barrels are new each year. The barrel aging of the red wines and the bottle aging of all the wines is carried out in the subway cellar of an old one from 1909, where the silence, the tranquility and the unbeatable conditions of temperature and humidity make the place the ideal place for the aging and conservation of the wine.
