Description

If there is something that characterizes Bodega Matarromera is its ability to produce wines for cellaring in the Ribera del Duero. Why? There are many reasons, but the key is in the raw material, or what is the same, in the vineyard or "majuelo". What does Bodega Matarromera do? Analyze, classify and pamper each and every one of its plots according to their agro-climatic characteristics, through the implementation of the project called San Bernardo.
The winery chose this name in honor of the monks of the Monastery of San Bernardo, since it was them in the eleventh century who brought from Burgundy the method of classification of vineyards to know in depth the characteristics of each plot. The Duero Valley is an area of enormous natural and patrimonial wealth in a privileged enclave of the Ribera del Duero. For its reserve wines, Bodega Matarromera chooses vineyards with the following characteristics:
Vines more than 25 years old and with measured vegetation, which give rise to smaller clusters and grape berries. Why? The concentration of color, polyphenols and other goodness of the grape is higher. In short, less quantity, but higher quality. Less is more! These types of vines grow mainly at higher altitudes.
Limestone soils located at an altitude of over 750 meters above sea level. As we have been saying, one of the greatest influences on a wine is the soil where the vineyard is planted. Limestone is a type of calcareous rock that allows good water drainage and gives full-bodied wines, suitable for aging.
