Produced only during the best years, when the Chardonnay (around 40%) and Pinot noir (around 60%) grapes have reached perfect maturity, Cristal ages for 6 years in the Louis Roederer cellars and is left to settle for a further 8 months after disgorgement. Cristal is an extraordinarily balanced and refined champagne whose length is inimitable. It has a silky texture and fruity aromas, complemented by a powerful minerality with notes of white fruit and citrus. Cristal is a wine that keeps well: it can be kept for more than twenty years without losing its freshness and character.
The most famous wine of our House was created in 1876 to satisfy the demanding tastes of Tsar Alexander II. The emperor asked Louis Roederer to reserve the best cuvée of the House for him each year. He was particularly fond of the House's wine. To distinguish this cuvée, this exceptional champagne was presented in a bottle with a flat bottom and transparent lead crystal. The new brand owes its name to this precious material, particularly transparent and luminous.
