Today, the DOQ Priorat Qualified Designation of Origin is one of the most prestigious wine regions in the world. It is unique. It is sublime. It is pure magic. The DOQ Priorat is located in the center of Catalonia, in an unpopulated and inhospitable area. The vines grow in poor, stony soils. They are planted on mountain slopes, on terraces at an altitude of between 100 and 700 meters above sea level. Most of the Priorat soil is composed of siliceous slate, known by the locals as "llicorella", and it is the llicorella that gives Priorat wines their unique character.
The average production per vine is usually less than 1 kg, which confers excellent properties to the grapes, which become pure gold in the hands of a good winemaker.
