Laya is a red wine from the D.O. Almansa produced by Bodega Atalaya. The winery is part of the Gil Family Estates group that owns other well-known wineries such as the Juan Gil winery. Laya is a blend of 2 grape varieties, Garnacha Tintorera and Monastrall. The grapes come from own vineyards located at an altitude of 700-1000 meters above sea level, with limestone soils. The climate of the area is not very rainy. The winemaking process begins with the maceration of the grapes before fermentation. The two grape varieties are fermented separately in stainless steel tanks for 15 days at a controlled temperature of 25ºC. Laya is then aged for 4 months in French oak barrels. Laya is a young red, but previous vintages have obtained good scores from international critics. This, coupled with its low price, is what makes it such an attractive wine from a relatively unknown region.
The Garnacha Tintorera and Monastrell grapes come from vineyards located in Almansa between 700 and 1,000 meters above sea level and planted on sandy soils with a high amount of limestone. Fermented separately in stainless steel tanks and subsequently aged in French oak barrels.
