The Gondorzello winery is the leader of the D.O. Tierra de León, with more than 25% of its production. It has managed to maintain the winemaking tradition of the area, promoting the native varieties of León, Prieto Picudo and Albarín, which, together with Verdejo. The history of the region dates back to the beginning of the 10th century, and serves as an indicator to establish the two economic sources on which the territories under its influence were based, the mills for cereal processing and the vineyards.
The Gordonzello vineyards are framed in a unique natural setting, next to the Cea riverbed, in the Leonese town of Gordoncillo, where the vineyards that guard the village jealously guard a secret: the aromas, the color, the body, the flavors... the essence of a land extracted directly from its vines: the Prieto Picudo.
The town of Gordoncillo is located within the geographical scope of the recently granted DENOMINATION OF ORIGIN LEÓN. The terroir and unique microclimatic conditions are the ideal breeding ground for the development of a grape with great personality. A dream on the palate, an evocative and exclusive grape, capable of making you feel with its presence the unforgettable memory of its origins: Gordonzello.
101 winegrowers unite to save their vineyards. In 1995, there were barely half a dozen grapevines left in Gordoncillo (León), and viticulture was dying... During that year and the first months of 1996, a group of winegrowers came together with the idea of converting these old, unproductive and scattered vineyards into a concentrated and profitable winegrowing operation that would allow the area's population to settle in the area. On April 22, 1995, GORDONZELLO S.A. was established as a joint stock company with the support of 101 partners, who contributed their 305 hectares of land. Between 1996 and 1998, the plantation was carried out on an area of 205 hectares, technically modern and ready to be mechanized. In 2002, the new winery was born. With this initiative Gordoncillo has definitively recovered its winegrowing past.
