The Waipara Valley is sheltered by the Teviotdale Hills, which protect from the cool ocean winds, but are open to the warm northwesterly winds. The north-facing, moderately sloping river terraces provide ideal sunshine for grape ripening.
The abundance of sunshine throughout the summer, combined with a long, dry and cool autumn, helps produce unique concentrated Rieslings and Pinot Gris, our regional specialties. The Waipara Valley season is especially long: bud break begins in September and harvest sometimes extends into mid-May. Waipara receives 600 mm of rainfall per year and an average of seven hours of sunshine.
Our winemaking philosophy is simple. It is about creating balance, encouraging the fruit characteristics of each season to shine and celebrating the vineyards of the Waipara Valley. The result is a wine that is richly textured and complex.
