The impressive depth of aroma and fullness of Doppio Passo Primitivo Puglia is due to the traditional production method. It is similar to that of Ripasso di Valpolicella. During this "double passage" (doppio passo), the wine re-extracts color, aroma and a subtle hint of sweetness from the skins. Doppio Passo wines are made exclusively from the Primitivo grape variety.
This Primitivo is a product of the Doppio Passo brand, a tribute to Carlo and Maria Botter who, together, founded the company in 1928, building it step by step, day after day, working together to achieve a common goal.Doppio Passo Primitivo is a full-bodied red wine from Italy that convinces with its voluminous character at a sensational price. It presents with a dense bouquet of black berries and suggestive notes of cocoa. Structure and depth are clearly present with soft tannins. Concentrated aromas and fine fruit sweetness continue on the palate. A masterfully pressed red from the Doppio Passo family, to which we suggest as a special dish the tasty oven-roasted veal with potatoes. Southern Italy is a real specialty. With the help of a double harvesting process, the Primitivo grape variety gets even more of its wonderful aroma. For Doppio Passo, half of the vines are harvested in the second or third cycle and the rest ripens on the vine for another three to four weeks to enrich the fructose. After separate vinification, the two parts are blended, leaving the late-harvest part with a seductive sweetness in the finished wine, giving it more intensity, fullness and character.
We knew that in Apulia there are still good wines for little money. However, it was still a surprise that we came across drops that have such a sensational price/pleasure ratio as this red and its siblings, the Doppio Passo Grillo and the rosé-colored dream Doppio Passo Rosato Primitivo . The Doppio Passo Riserva is also a real coup - try it!
