Description

Our wines are handcrafted from grapes grown in our vineyards in Monterey County, located on California's golden Central Coast. This growing region is a marvel, with a myriad of soils, elevations and microclimates that allow us to grow a great diversity of varietals. Paying special attention to these influences, we strive to showcase the natural expression of the vineyard, varietal and vintage in every bottle. In a world of flashy technology, some might call this impotently old-fashioned. We call it Craftwork.
Distinctive plum and black currant aromas frame ripe, juicy flavors of black cherry and strawberry jam. Well-integrated tannins unfold on a rich, layered finish. The firm structure makes our Zinfandel an excellent pairing with steak, sausage, pizza and pasta.
For vinification, the grapes are destemmed, crushed on arrival at the winery and fermented in small batches in open fermenters. The skins are shaken several times a day. The bazuqueo is a traditional method that gives the skins as much contact as possible with the fermenting wine, ensuring maximum transfer of color and phenols from the skins to the wine. After a 10-day fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine is aged with a combination of Hungarian and American oak to round and soften the rich black fruit flavors. The Zinfandel grapes are sourced from our San Lucas and Hames Valley vineyards. Hames is located in the southern end of Monterey County and has a climate characterized by a large temperature difference between day and night. Most of this blend comes from San Lucas, about 20 miles north of Hames Valley and is characterized by beautiful rolling topography, sunny days and cool nights.
