Barón de Chirel Reserva 2017 is a great signature wine from the centenary Rioja winery Marqués de Riscal. Designed from a selection of grapes from very old vines, between 80 and 110 years old, with very low yields and great concentration. A real treasure.

Description

Baron de Chirel Reserva is a modern classic that enhances the identity, tradition and modernity of Rioja. The first vintage of Baron de Chirel, 1986, responds to a growing interest in high quality Rioja wines. Since its beginnings, Marqués de Riscal has had a close link with Bordeaux winemaking methods. At that time, Professor Guy Guimberteau, successor to Émile Peynaud, who also had Francisco Hurtado de Amézaga as a pupil in his Bordeaux oenological training, was an advisor to Marqués de Riscal. Later, in 1997, Paul Pontallier, general manager of one of the five Bordeaux first crus: Château Margaux, joined the team. As a result of this link, the idea was born to produce an experimental wine that would recover the greatness of those mythical Médoc Reserves, updated with the means and technology of the 20th century.
Vines between 80 and 110 years old were selected with very low yields, grapes of the best quality, made only in the best vintages when the vineyard expresses the full character of the terroir. "The New Age of Rioja" had just been born. Pioneer and precursor of what was later called "high expression wines". After the success of his breakthrough in a market eager for high quality wines, countless wines began to appear following in the wake of Baron de Chirel with great popularity among the most demanding customers.
